County explains new voting machines

Special to The Sun
Burlington County Superintendent of Elections’ staff explain how to cast ballots with new voting machines during the county’s senior expo earlier this year.

Burlington County election officials are showing voters how to use new voting machines for this year’s general election at the Moorestown Mall’s County Corner Store.

The county’s Superintendent of Elections and its clerk’s office have staff at the mall every Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to assist with voter registration and other election-related matters, including vote-by-mail and early-voting options, updating registration information or removing a deceased relative from registration lists.

The new voting equipment will be deployed at all county voting locations during the early voting period and on Election Day, Tuesday, Nov. 5. It consists of electronic ballot marking devices and tabulators that are the same as those acquired by the county and have been used during early voting since 2021.

The county has also released a three-minute computer animation video that provides a step-by-step description for using the new machines. It’s available for viewing on the Burlington County Election Services page at https://www.co.burlington.nj.us/593/Election-Voter-Services.

The deadline to register to vote in the general election is Tuesday, Oct. 15. To be eligible, a voter must be a U.S. citizen who is at least 17 years old (though you may not vote until you have reached the age of 18) and a resident of the county for at least 30 days before an election.

Eligible voters can register at the Superintendent of Elections Office at 301 Harper Drive, Moorestown, online at https://nj.gov/state/elections/voter-registration.shtml or at the County Corner Store location. Paper voter registration forms are also available online and can be mailed to the superintendent’s office.

Voters can check their registration status online at https://voter.svrs.nj.gov/registration-check.
