A 30-year-old Riverton resident has been convicted of fatally stabbing a man at the Rodeway Inn on Route 73 in Mount Laurel last year, according to Burlington County Prosecutor LaChia L. Bradshaw.

After deliberating for approximately five hours, a Superior Court jury found Taylor Perkins guilty of manslaughter in the second degree and other charges, according to a press release from the prosecutor. He will be sentenced on Oct. 18 in Mount Holly.

The investigation began on April 20, 2023, when township police officers were called to the hotel just before 10 a.m. for a report of two men fighting. They found the body of 36-year-old township resident Michael Jefferies on the ground outside a second-floor room with multiple stab wounds.

The investigation determined that after stabbing Jefferies, Perkins fled on foot to a nearby BMW dealership and drove off in a sport utility vehicle. He then abandoned the vehicle in Evesham and stole a truck. He was eventually apprehended at a residence on Decatur Street in Camden.
