Randy Brolo Joins Burlington County Board of Commissioners

Board of Commissioners New Member

The Burlington County Board of Commissioners has a new member in its ranks.

Randy Brolo, a veteran union leader and Lumberton resident, was sworn in on March 1 after securing the Democratic nomination at the Burlington County Democratic convention.

His appointment fills the vacancy left by Balvir Singh, who recently transitioned to the New Jersey State Assembly.

Brolo brings years of leadership experience as the South Jersey Business Development Manager for the Laborers’ International Union of North America, one of the most influential building trade unions in the nation.

His background extends beyond labor advocacy, with prior public service roles on the Rancocas Valley Regional High School Board of Education, the Mount Holly Municipal Authority, and the Lumberton Planning Board.

His ascension to commissioner follows a competitive process within the county’s Democratic ranks.

The initial voting round saw multiple contenders, including Mount Laurel Deputy Mayor Steven Steglik, who forced a runoff.

Brolo ultimately clinched the nomination with a decisive margin and was swiftly sworn into office.

Brolo reaffirmed his dedication to public service, stressing his priorities of making life more affordable, boosting the economy, and enhancing the quality of life for residents.

He praised the Board’s pragmatic approach to tackling pressing concerns such as housing, hunger, and substance use, stating that he looks forward to contributing to these efforts.

Burlington County Commissioner Director Dr. Felicia Hopson welcomed Brolo’s addition, pointing out his strong grasp of the issues that working families face.

She mentioned that his experience as a union leader brings valuable insights, particularly in shaping policies that protect vulnerable communities and encourage economic growth.

Brolo will serve through this election cycle and will need to campaign in November to secure his seat for the longer term.

His appointment also coincided with a major endorsement from Burlington County Democrats in the upcoming New Jersey gubernatorial primary.

Former State Senate President Steve Sweeney secured the party’s backing, positioning himself as the leading South Jersey candidate in the race.

Burlington Democrats leaned into the argument that the state’s next governor should have firsthand experience with South Jersey’s economic and political challenges.
