The Burlington County Institute of Technology (BCIT) in Medford, New Jersey, is marking a milestone by completing an $8 million renovation and expansion project at its Hawkin Road campus.
This initiative is set to enhance educational facilities and programs, benefiting both current and future students.
Earlier this week, the ceremony highlighted the improvements aimed at modernizing the campus and supporting the growth of the institution’s specialized programs.
The campus’s welding and HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning) shops have received substantial upgrades, providing students with access to state-of-the-art training equipment.
The enhancements are part of a larger effort to equip students with the skills needed in high-demand industries.
Perhaps the most exciting addition is the new video game design lab, a cutting-edge space to support BCIT’s growing video game design program.
This lab will give program students hands-on experience and support the school’s Esports competition team, which has been growing in popularity.
Currently, 25 students compete as part of the team, while 17 are enrolled in the video game design program.
The school plans to expand the program to accommodate 56 students in the future.
According to officials, these are the first major renovations to the Medford campus since 2006, and they reflect the school’s ongoing commitment to meeting the evolving needs of its students.
The newly expanded spaces will allow the school to enroll more students and continue offering relevant, high-quality education.
These updates are particularly important as the world of technology and skilled trades continues to evolve at a fast pace.
Burlington County Commissioner Deputy Director Allison Eckel emphasized the broader impact these improvements will have, noting that the renovations will help keep Burlington County’s workforce competitive.
The upgraded facilities benefit students directly and also help attract new businesses to the area, particularly those in rapidly growing sectors like technology and skilled trades.
In addition to the Medford campus improvements, BCIT is also working on a $14 million expansion at its Westampton campus.
This project, which will add 39,000 square feet of space, includes expanded classroom areas, a logistics training zone, and a large diesel engine garage, further enhancing the county’s educational infrastructure.
Overall, the $8 million renovation at the Medford campus marks an exciting step forward for BCIT.
With its updated welding and HVAC shops and new video game design lab, the school is preparing students for success in fields that will continue to shape the future of the economy.
