Golf event supports historic Community House

Community House fundraisers help with upkeep of the historic, almost 100-year-old township building.

The Community House of Moorestown will hold its sixth annual golf outing at the Riverton Country Club in Cinnaminson on Monday, June 17.

Giving and Greens for the House will include a two-hour post-event party with cocktails, dinner, raffles, a 50/50 and an awards ceremony. Non-golfing guests are welcome to join the post-event party for $55.

The cost for a single golfer is $300 and a foursome is $1,200. Registration includes golf, golf cart set up, bag drop services, an appreciation gift, lunch and beverages on the course. Registration begins at 10:30 a.m. followed by lunch at 11 a.m. and a shotgun start at noon.

“Last year, we introduced a gorgeous trophy for the foursome that came in with the best score, so everybody is really fun in vying to get their name on this trophy,” said Sheree Lantz, of the Community House board of trustees. “So I have been hearing rumor(s) of people trying to put a foursome together with some really good players to get their name put on the trophy that sits here at the community house.”

The event is expected to be capped at 84 players and there will also be a DJ and a putting contest. New York Knicks point guard Jalen Brunson attended last year’s golf outing and was invited to attend again this year.

There are different sponsorship levels for the event. For more information on that, visit the Community House website.

“We have many sponsorship levels and we’re really hoping that the sponsorship levels will fill out because we’re approaching the 100th year anniversary of the community house, and we’re doing all that we can do to maintain this 100-year-old building,” Lantz explained.

“This fundraiser is extremely important to raise money to support the house.”

Other fundraisers for the nonprofit include its house party, the 50/50 holiday raffle and a wine tasting last month.

“It was a wonderful event,” Lantz said of the tasting, dubbed Springtime Sips. She looks forward to the golf outing.

“People usually say, through playing this golf outing, this is one of the most fun golf outings that they play in,” Lantz noted. “We have snacks all over the course, we have beverages all over the course …

“We always have a wonderful giveaway prize that everybody gets, (and) a lot of people donate items to be put in the goodie bag that people get,” she added. “And they love that.”

With the Community House’s 100-year anniversary happening next year, Lantz approached its history in a different way.

“Close your eyes and imagine this building not being here,” she said. “This building on Main Street is iconic. People come and just sit on our front lawn. People come off Main Street just to walk through the building to see how it was built, to see the different rooms …

“That’s why these fundraisers are just so critical to the Community House,” Lantz pointed out. “Every bit of money helps.”
