Clearview Regional High School field hockey coach Brittany Ewan and boys’ soccer coach Dodd Terry have each received the coach of the year award from NJ.com.

“Well, it is a tremendous honor to be chosen as New Jersey’s coach of the year,” said Ewan. “I am so humbled and appreciate being recognized for all the time and hard work put into this program.”

“It is a very nice honor,” noted Terry, “to be certain an honor that is owed to the talent, quality, and teamwork of our players and team. It was a great honor for me, and indicative of our team’s success this year.”

Ewan helped lead the field hockey team to a Group III state championship title game in November, a 3-2 double overtime victory over North Hunterdon Regional High School in Clinton Township. It was the program’s second state championship since 2019.

“The atmosphere was unbelievable,” Ewan recalled of the win. “Our fan club was cheering so loudly, firing our girls up, and they definitely feed off of that. It was hard to communicate with the girls on the field at times, but we love that excitement, and it’s something we look forward to when playing at that level.

“Our family, friends and fans are the absolute best.”

Ewan said she was thankful for her team members.

“It is because of them that I’m even considered for this award,” she acknowledged. “They work hard and are the ones that implement my coaching strategies, and I’m so lucky to have such an amazing group of players to work with. They match my level of passion for the game and it was the best feeling to embark on this journey with them.”

“We are extremely proud of Britney and she is certainly deserving of this prestigious recognition,” noted the Clearview athletics Facebook page.

Terry, meanwhile, helped lead his team to sectional championship appearances this year, most recently the South Group III Sectional Title on Nov. 4, where Clearview defeated Shawnee High School 3-1. The team was also a South Jersey Coach’s Cup Tournament champion, beating Washington Township in a shootout on Oct. 21.

“We are extremely proud of Dodd, and he is certainly deserving of this outstanding recognition,” said another Facebook post.

“I was fortunate to coach such a great team this year,” recalled Terry, Clearview’s coach for 19 years. “I’m just so proud of (them). They really represented the … school district … and that played an instrumental role in our team’s success.”
