A parade of alumni – and more – at Woofstock

Voorhees shelter hosts its annual outdoor festival to raise funds for animals in need

The 27th annual Woofstock Festival hosted by the Voorhees Animal Orphanage – an outdoor event with something for everyone in the family and a fundraiser for animals in need – will be held on Saturday, Sept. 23, at 11 a.m.

Last year’s event had more than 100 vendors and 20 animal rescue groups; this year, more than 125 vendors and 30 rescue groups will be on hand. There will also be eight food trucks on site, music, dog demonstrations, a beer garden and a 50/50 gift basket raffle.

As always, there will be the orphanage alumni parade for animals who were adopted and are now living with families. Orphanage Marketing Director Jennifer Bailey said the parade is one of her favorite things about the event.

“It really gives us a chance to see the impact of adopting (animals) can have,” she explained. “It’s always great to see the dogs and remember their names when they were here with us at the shelter and what their family calls them now.”

Bailey has been part of nine Woofstocks. She noted that the $75,000 goal reached last year is a good benchmark for 2023, but wants to see it go even higher.

“We’d all love $100,000 right? But, the $75,000 we reached last year was great, and going forward, I hope we can (stay) around there,” Bailey added.

Typical shelter costs are $25 a day for keeping animals fed and healthy, but the amount skyrockets if an animal is injured or becomes ill. So Woofstock donations are extremely valuable. There are now more than 250 animals available for adoption at the orphanage.

“Donations help us keep the lights on,” Bailey said.
