Association lands 329 turkeys for its annual food drive

The Moorestown Home & School Association collected 329 turkeys and 246 pies for families in the community during its annual drive on Nov. 20.

“Our goal is to first and foremost feed any family in need within our school district,” said co-chair Jen Scharf. “Beyond that, we do extra outreach to the community.”

The drive was paired with last month’s dry-and-canned-goods collection in the township schools.

“It’s a really collaborative effort within the whole school community, because people come and donate their frozen turkeys and fresh pies on this day,” noted Megan Allen, also a drive co-chair. “But then prior to that, families bring canned goods and boxed goods to the schools, which helps us make one cohesive Thanksgiving meal for families in need in our community.”

The association’s turkey and pies drive – its most familiar event – is among ways the nonprofit and Moorestown residents jointly help others around the holidays.

“People have been so generous,” said Alia Jafry, another drive co-chair. “We aren’t just able to feed the families in Moorestown, but we’ve been able to donate to other causes, so it’s been really fulfilling to see that.”
