Eastern board of education holds first regular meeting of 2022

The Eastern Regional School District held its first regular board meeting since its  reorganization session earlier this month. The Jan. 19 meeting was business as usual in the eyes of Superintendent Robert Cloutier and other attendees.

“The good news about our meeting is that the agenda was followed to a T; it’s very rare that something takes us away from the agenda,” he said.

Which is exactly what happened at the meeting, which saw public comment and  acknowledgement of smooth sailing on the technology front.

“Everything went just as planned,” Cloutier noted. “It was fine that everything that we planned on the agenda occurred, which is nice.”

Dr. Kristin Borda presented the “Start Strong Fall 2021” assessment data that reviewed how students were doing in the beginning of the school year, the first time at full capacity in months. The data showed students are earning improved testing scores.

The district had only three virtual days in the 2021-’22 school year.

“Going forward, I have no expectations that anything will be cancelled.” said Cloutier, who also confirmed that Eastern plans to go ahead with its winter musical, “Legally Blonde.”

“At this point we haven’t … had to cancel any school programs,” he added. “Of course,  there have been interruptions with sports [and such]. Overall, we have been very lucky this year as our “peak” in positive tests occurred over the winter break.”

The board also announced January’s Scholar of the Month, Lauren Kanseller, at the meeting. She boasts a full slate of AP courses and is a standout on the cross country team. She plans to study medicine starting in the spring.
