This holiday season, a couple from St. Marys, Camden County, has taken on the heartwarming task of spreading festive cheer in an unexpected location—local cemeteries.
Tiffany and her partner felt compelled to act after noticing broken headstones and neglected gravesites at Oak Grove Cemetery.
The sight of deteriorating graves from the 1800s, many left abandoned and forgotten, prompted them to make a difference.
Their decorations have brightened up several graves, with one site now featuring a small artificial Christmas tree and fresh flowers, while another is adorned with blue garland, bows, snowmen, and a snow globe.
For Tiffany Hill, the effort goes far beyond decorating.
She believes that many people forget about cemeteries and their significance, which is evident in the absence of visitors.
By taking the time to decorate, she hopes to attract more people to these spaces and encourage them to remember and care for their loved one’s final resting places.
The couple’s mission also aims to raise awareness about the importance of cemetery upkeep, especially for those neglected over the years.
They plan to continue decorating throughout the holiday week, including Christmas Eve and Christmas Day visits.
However, they are also committed to removing all decorations by New Year’s Day so that their efforts leave no trace behind and avoid turning into litter, all while still honoring the cemeteries they aim to support.
