Camden County Opens New $900K Skatepark at Cooper River Park

Camden County Opens New Skatepark

Camden County has officially opened the long-awaited skatepark at Cooper River Park in Cherry Hill, a project that has been years in the making.

On Wednesday, local officials and members of the skateboarding community gathered for the grand opening of the $900,000 facility, which promises to be a top location for skaters of all skill levels in South Jersey.

The project, funded by Camden County and the state, features many skateboarding elements, including quarter pipes, rails, and a pump track.

The new park, located near Cuthbert Boulevard and behind the DoubleTree Hotel, is securely fenced and will be open daily until 10:00 p.m.

For those planning to visit, the Camden County Winterfest ice skating rink is just a short walk away, and it provides a great opportunity to experience two of the park’s seasonal attractions.

The skatepark’s opening marks the culmination of years of advocacy by local skateboarding supporters, particularly Cherry Hill resident Arla Rosenthal.

Rosenthal, a vocal proponent of the park since she first approached the township about it 14 years ago, was present at the opening and expressed her joy as she watched skaters, including her son Lyle, navigate the new park.

The project was funded in part by a $87,000 contribution from Assembly Majority Leader Louis Greenwald, who presented the check in July 2023.

This addition to the 346-acre Cooper River Park, which has been a popular spot for residents and visitors for over a century, is another example of Camden County’s commitment to improving recreational spaces for the community.

Mayor David Fleisher also spoke at the unveiling, praising the park as an important addition to the town’s offerings.

In addition to the skatepark, Cooper River Park is home to various recreational features, including the Camden County Boathouse, a golf academy, a softball field, and bike trails.

The park is also the Jefferson Dad Vail Regatta site, the nation’s largest high school and college rowing competition.
