The New Jersey School Counselor Association (NJSCA) recently honored counselors from counties throughout the state with its annual awards.
One of them was Carolann Newman – a counselor at Deptford Middle School – who was selected as the this year’s winner for Gloucester County.
The award honors those professionals who devote their careers to serving as advocates – and often lifesavers – for students. Counselors are nominated by their colleagues because of their ability to deliver an effective school counseling program focused on academic development, career counseling and personal/social support, according to NJSCA.
They also distinguish themselves as leaders of systemic change, advocates for students, and collaborative professionals who seek the success of the “whole” student in school and in life.
