Shady Lane school comes to historic life

Fifth-grade students at Shady Lane School in Deptford hosted a wax museum project for their families earlier this month.

Students each chose a figure to study in conjunction with Black History Month in February and Women’s History Month in March, then spent time researching, producing writing and visual aids and creating costume and dialogue to “become” their persons.

Arranged in a walk-through space, the Spartans posed as statues, coming to life to have in-character conversations with visitors. They were praised for their level of knowledge, attention to detail and confidence in playing their roles.
