Camden County sees surge in cases following Thanksgiving

County reports 13 new COVID-related deaths in two weeks; daily case average increases from 60 to 90.

The Camden County Department of Health is announcing new positive cases of COVID-19.

From Tuesday, Nov. 29 to Tuesday, Dec. 6, the county department of health announced 722 positive cases of COVID-19 and seven new COVID-related fatalities. Additionally, there were 169 cases detected through antigen testing, bringing the total number of cases 891 for the week.

Of the 722 cases, 99 were among patients under 18. The average age of the newly infected was 45 years old.

The daily case average for this week was 90, a sharp increase from the previous week’s average of 60 cases per day.

From Wednesday, Dec. 7 to Tuesday, Dec. 13, the county department of health announced 623 new positive cases of COVID-19 and six new COVID-related deaths.

The aggregate number of confirmed positive cases in Camden County to 131,867 and 1,752 total fatalities.

The outcomes from these antigen tests, unlike the results from the polymerase chain reaction, (PCR) are probable positive cases. These daily numbers are added into our aggregated lab tested PCR metrics.

Of the 623 cases, 103 are among patients under 18 years old. The average age of the newly infected is 46 years old.

To date, 426,483 Camden County residents have received at least one of the COVID-19 vaccine, 381,255 have received two doses and 252,247 have received a third dose. More information regarding vaccination rates throughout the county and available on the state’s COVID-19 dashboard at covid19.nj.gov.

The county Health Department is continuing to closely track new cases of COVID-19 and information regarding the prevalence of the Omicron variant. New cases are often reassigned to other municipalities over the course of an investigation.
