The Camden County Department of Health (DOH) on Monday announced 58 new deaths caused by novel coronavirus (COVID-19) in Camden County which occurred between April 13 and May 30.
The county is also announcing 109 additional cases of the disease that have been confirmed since Saturday, June 13. This brings the aggregate number of confirmed positive cases to 7,389 in Camden County and 410 total fatalities.
In recent days, the Department of Health has been working to reconcile the county’s death totals with those reported by the State Department of Health. During this investigation, a backlog of previously unreported deaths was uncovered dating back to April 13.
The backlog is made up of cases which were entered into systems like the Communicable Disease Reporting and Surveillance Systems (CDRSS) and the Electronic Death Reporting System (EDRS) days or weeks after the confirmed date of death, and cases where the cause of death was recategorized from a “probable” relation to COVID-19 to “confirmed.”

“We are deeply saddened to have learned of this devastating loss of life in our community. While these deaths date back to the middle of April, they continue to underscore the deadly potential of this virus and why we cannot allow it to regain a foothold in our region,” said Freeholder Director Louis Cappelli, Jr.
“Around the country there are growing concerns regarding rising case totals and the beginning of a new wave of viral spread. The truth is that until we have a reliable treatment or an effective vaccine, we will likely continue to see increases and decreases in viral activity to varying degrees. The only way to truly protect yourself and others is to continue social distancing, wear a mask in public, stay home when you are sick, and practice good hand hygiene.
