Township holds summer concert series

Moorestown’s summer concert series will feature musical act Radiation Nation at the Community House of Moorestown on Monday at 7:15 p.m. Children’s entertainment will start at 6:30 p.m.

“It’s great family fun,” said Theresa Miller, director of Moorestown Parks and Recreation. “The parents have really enjoyed bringing their children to the entertainment. You can tell by the children, how much they enjoy it. We have some wonderful entertainment that comes for the children, followed by a great concert and many of the families stay for those concerts.

“It’s just a great community event.”

The concert series is presented by the township and parks and rec, in collaboration with the Perkins Center for the Arts, the Community House of Moorestown and MoorArts. All concerts are free and held on Monday evenings on the lawn of either the community house or Perkins.

The concerts were started years ago by parks and rec, but it wasn’t until around 2007-2008 that parks and rec started to collaborate with Perkins, the community house and MoorArts.

“We have the first two concerts held at the Perkins Center for the Arts, and then the other concerts are held on the lawn of the community house on Main Street …” Miller explained. “It’s been a wonderful collaboration with all four groups … I love to see people in the community of all ages enjoying it.”

Future shows include the Golden Eagle Community Band on July 15, the Wind Symphony of Southern New Jersey on July 22, the Collins/Flynn Band on July 29 and the Trophy Husbands on Aug. 5. The concert series featured Moorestown native Courtney Halpin MacBride, who goes by the artist name CORii, on June 17. She is a pop/rock artist who secured a spot on Team Reba for season 24 of NBC’s “The Voice,” and she’s also someone who has a past with Andrea Seuren, vice president of MoorArts.

“When she was in middle school we did ‘Fiddler on the Roof’ together,” Seuren recalled of MacBride. “That was back when MoorArts was doing full-blown productions on stage, and she was one of the daughters and I was one of the mamas. And we met then and we kept in touch through the years.

“ … She had the crowd going and it was a lovely evening,” Seuren added of the June 17 show. “It’s nice to see somebody move on with their career and do different things with it. That’s one of the things that I think MoorArts is all about, helping folks further their career in the arts and that was nice to see because we’ve known her for so long.”

The concert series offers music and entertainment for all ages and from Seuran’s point of view, it’s simply a night of fun.

“Come out and enjoy yourself, and it costs you nothing but your time,” she said. “ … Parks and rec, they’re just a great organization to work with. They have diversified programs for people that want to do things and we hope our partnership continues.”
