Berlin teacher charged with harassment

A 38-year-old Marlton resident has been arrested and charged with cyber harassment and criminal trespass after he was placed on administrative leave from his job at Berlin Community School on April 15, according to Berlin Borough police.

Teacher Scott D. Nalick was escorted off school grounds after what were described as “concerning” communications and social media posts he wrote directed at students, parents and staff, causing the school to cut off his electronic access. He also allegedly “placed a large plastic tote” behind the school, police said.

The situation escalated when Berlin and Evesham police officers conducted a well-being check at Nalick’s residence, where he was advised to cease all contact with the school. Police allege that Nalick later drove to the residence of a school staffer outside of Berlin whom he allegedly harassed, then showed up on school grounds.

Nalick was arrested at the school and remanded to the Camden County Jail to await a detention hearing. He also faces charges of altering government computer documents, according to police.

The case prompted police to implement additional security measures at Berlin Community School, including increased patrols during school hours and the assignment of an additional School Resource Officer. School Superintendent Brenda Harring also asked that students who may be contacted by Nalick immediately inform an adult.

Along with Evesham police, the Berlin department was assisted by the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office, Monroe Township police and school administrators. As the investigation continues, Berlin police ask that anyone with information related to the case call the department at (856) 767-4700.
