The county has deployed more than 100 pieces of equipment to treat roads during Wednesday’s storm
With snow now falling all across South Jersey, the Camden County Department of Public Works is working to keep 1,200 lane miles of roadways across the county passable. Over the course of this winter weather event, the DPW will be monitoring conditions to ensure snow and ice don’t build up on roads.
“Our crews are on the roads and working to keep traffic moving during the lunch hour and evening commute as today’s storm brings icy, dangerous conditions to our roadways,” said Freeholder Susan Shin Angulo, liaison to the CCDPW. “We are monitoring the storm and working to respond appropriately as snow shifts to rain and ice in the afternoon and evening.”
More than 100 pieces of equipment and more than 100 employees have been deployed from the Public Works complex in Lindenwold to Camden County’s 12 winter maintenance districts. The county’s response plan calls for crews to be dispatched only to the zones where they are needed.
“If you don’t have to travel, please stay off the roads to give our crews the ability to effectively do their job. Anyone on the roadways should be prepared to encounter slick road conditions. Always leave at least six car lengths behind our DPW vehicles while they work, and move any cars off the street and into a driveway while we continue our plowing operations,” Shin Angulo said. “Remember that it is illegal in New Jersey to plow or shovel snow from private property into roadways.”
Haddonfield schools will have early dismissal today, and officials urge caution for those who are on the roads as the storm progresses.
Residents are also asked to stay off of roads to allow plow crews and emergency personnel to do their jobs.
