‘Take Control of Your Health’ coming to Mt. Laurel Community Center on Oct. 15

The Retired and Senior Volunteer Program of Burlington County, sponsored in part by Burlington County College, is offering workshops on managing chronic health conditions and organizing family history documents.

“Take Control of Your Health” workshops are a series of six-week, evidence-based seminars created by Stanford University and designed for adults with chronic health conditions and their caregivers. The free workshops provide support and essential tools necessary to help establish strategies for managing chronic conditions such as arthritis, heart and lung conditions, anxiety, diabetes and high blood pressure.

“This wellness program helps maintain and improve the health of participants. For those who attend the workshops, it can be an empowering and life altering experience,” said RSVP of Burlington County director Karen Bennett.

Workshops are offered every Wednesday, Oct. 15 through Nov. 19, from 10 a.m. to noon at the Mt. Laurel Community Center. Topics include managing stress, improving communication skills, managing and reducing pain, coping with depression and fatigue, increasing your energy levels, and eating healthy and maintaining your weight. Workshops are facilitated by trained peer leaders who also have chronic conditions. Each week, participants set their own goals to improve their health and their life.

Anyone 18 years or older with a chronic condition or a caregiver for someone with a chronic condition is welcome to attend. Participants are not required to be members of the community center or live in Mt. Laurel. All participants will receive a free textbook, “Living a Healthy Life with Chronic Conditions,” and upon program completion, a free stress management CD and certificate.

For more information on the wellness workshops, or to register, please contact RSVP of Burlington County at (609) 894–9311, ext. 1488 or email [email protected].
