“Construction has been very busy, especially at the high school building,” according to Business Administrator Nicholas Bice.
Construction projects, primarily at the high school, began June 25 and have been making substantial progress since.
According to a statement from the district, the three major projects taking place at Burlington Township High School this summer include replacing the gym floor, bleachers and roof shingles. Upgrades to the Performing Arts Center are also expected to take place this summer.
The center’s renovation has not begun yet, according to Bice. Expenses pertaining to the renovations have been ordered, such as fabric, and the center will have seats reupholstered with the new fabric, which was included in the referendum. According to the statement, this project is expected to be completed by the end of August.
All of the referendum-specific projects for this summer are taking place at Burlington Township High School, according to the statement. Additional refurbishments are taking place across the district to maintain buildings and prepare for the new school year.
A few notable non-referendum projects are also being worked on this summer. These include the installation of a patio outside the cafeteria at the high school and the refinishing of the gymnasium floor at Fountain Woods Elementary School. All projects are on track to reach “substantial completion” by the end of August.
“They will be working straight through to get that whole job complete,” Bice said.
Additional referendum projects are on the horizon in the coming weeks. These include the irrigation of the fields at the Hopkins Building and at Burlington Township Middle School. The front entrance canopy at Fountain Woods Elementary School will also be renovated.
“It’s been a very busy summer getting all of the buildings ready for the next school year,” Brice said.

- There is no change to the state aid figures that were originally received in March, which are included in the 2018–2019 budget.
