Burlington County and much of South Jersey will be under a flash flood watch for most of Tuesday as heavy rain and thunderstorms are expected to strike the region.

The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood watch from 11 a.m. Tuesday through midnight on Wednesday. The watch was issued as thunderstorms with heavy rain could result in flash flooding across along and near the Interstate 95 corridor.

One to two inches of rain is expected today, though there could be locally heavier amounts of more than three inches. The heaviest rain is expected this afternoon and evening. Excessive rainfall within a short period of time can lead to rapidly rising water and flash flooding, particularly in urban areas and along small creeks and
streams.

Residents are asked to monitor the weather today, especially those living in a location that is prone to flooding.
