Driver charged in hit-and-run

The driver involved in a hit-and-run accident last month in Gloucester Township has been identified and charged, announced Camden County Prosecutor Grace C. MacAulay and Gloucester Township Police Chief David Harkins.

Christopher Bucceroni, 28, of West Deptford, faces charges of third-degree knowingly leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident resulting in serious bodily injury. Bucceroni turned himself in to authorities the day after the accident, according to the prosecutor’s office.

The incident occurred on June 20 at approximately 2:27 a.m., when the Gloucester Township Police Department was dispatched to the area of Erial Road and Blackwood-Clementon Road following reports of a hit-and-run collision involving a motor vehicle and a bicyclist.

During the investigation, detectives confirmed that a dark-colored SUV struck the bicyclist in the roadway and failed to stop. The bicyclist, an 18-year-old male from Gloucester Township, was transported to Cooper University Hospital with serious injuries.

Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the accident. Bucceroni’s court date has not yet been announced.

Anyone with additional information about the incident is urged to contact the Gloucester Township Police Department.
