Township trunk or treat expected to draw more than 500

The township’s council, emergency services, library, public works and parks and recreation department will host the annual trunk or treat on Thursday, Oct. 27.

The trunk or treat enables kids to visit different booths at the township recreation center for some early trick or treating. More than 500 people, according to Mayor Paul Medany, are expected during the two-hour event.

It’s a family event for Deptford residents only to celebrate Halloween,” said Medany. “For the last two years, it is a drive-thru event, where everyone stays in their car. We will have over 25 local businesses and Deptford organizations set up with candy for the trick or treaters.

Kids wear their costumes,” he added, “but the businesses and organizations decorate their vehicles and wear some fantastic costumes, from monsters to cartoon characters.”

Only kids 12 and under are permitted to trick or treat, and all attendees are required to wear a wristband to confirm their registration for the event. The wristbands are free and can be reserved by calling the parks and recreation department at (856) 845-0804 or emailing to [email protected]. The above contacts can also be used to request information about the trunk or treat.

The wristbands will be effective for one of two time slots, from 6 to 7 p.m. or 7 to 8 p.m. They can be picked up at the township municipal building.

The Council will also have a booth set up for families to have what Medany describes as a “terrific time.” There will also be a vehicle loaded with Halloween decorations.

Everyone can expect a great evening filled with fun and goodies,” the mayor noted.

The two-hour trunk or treat begins at 6 p.m. at the Deptford Recreation Center. Follow the township Facebook page or website for more information and updates.
