The treat is in the trot

Runners at Halloween-themed 5K can wear their costumes

The Harrison Township Recreation Commission and Victory Physical Therapy in Mullica Hill will host the 15th annual Trick or Trot 5K Fun Run at Ella Harris Park on Oct. 22.

“This run was created and inspired by Victory (Physical) Therapy,” said Harrison’s Recreation Coordinator Sharon Chew. “The owner of Victory was once part of the recreation. The money raised from the event will go to the recreation fund to help make parks available for all.

“Last year was an exception, as the funds instead went to the victims of the tornado,” added Chew, referring to last year’s devastating damage to homes in Mullica Hill.

The Trick or Trot will start at Ella Harris Park on the commissioners’ side. It will follow the walking path to Willowbrook Farms and loop back around. The event’s 20 plus sponsors will be highlighted on commemorative shirts.

Given the event’s Halloween theme, 5K participants are encouraged to wear costumes.

“There’s just all kinds of costumes,” Chew noted. “Each year is different. The Walters family (the owners of Victory) would always be coordinated with their costumes.”

When the race concludes, there will be awards given in a variety of categories. Those will

include prizes for the best costume overall and the best group costume.

Last year’s event drew 92 runners, and Chew hopes the 2022 version will be as successful.

“I’m hoping to have the same amount of people this year as well,” she said. “When they started this 17 years ago, there were hardly any 5Ks. Now there’s 5Ks everywhere.”

Trick or Trot will kick off at 8:30 a.m. Participants can register in advance for $20 each – at runsignup.com/trickortrot – or at 7:45 a.m. the day of for $25 a person. The event will be held rain or shine.
