The South Jersey Pops, the region’s own non-profit orchestra, continues its 51st season as it presents ”Discord: The Sound of Human Conflict” March 26, 2023, at Lenape High School in Medford, N.J. The concert will feature the music of conflict as it’s been expressed in popular culture, contemporary and classical music, and film and television over the years.
“This is something fun and a little different for the orchestra. Conflict has always been an integral part of the human condition, and it has been portrayed musically in practically every format, and every genre. It’s a rich history, and audiences will find many familiar tunes,” said Robert Bradshaw of Audubon, the Pops’ conductor and musical director.
Michael Wisnosky of Morrisville, Pa., and Daniel Hutchinson from the band 9South will be guest vocalists for the performance, which will also feature the orchestra’s own Emma Gibbins and concertmaster-violinist Jaress Loo of Cherry Hill in solos or highlighted moments.
Musical selections cut across TV, movies, stage and the masters, and include:
- “West Side Story”
- Gustov Holst’s “Mars, Bringer of War”
- “Game of Thrones”
- “Romeo & Juliet” (Tchaikovsky)
- “The Devil Went Down to Georgia”
- “Anything You Can Do” from “Annie Get Your Gun”
- “Remembrances” from “Schindler’s List”
“Discord” begins at 3 p.m. March 26; doors open 30 minutes before the performance. Admission is $15 for adults, and $5 for children under 12. Children under 2 are free. Lenape High School is located at 235 Hartford Road, Medford, N.J. To order tickets, visit https://www.southjerseypops.org/events-tickets.
