For the fourth year our Historical Society has produced a collectable holiday ornament featuring a historic Harrison Township building. This year presents the Union Academy. With only 200 available, these beautifully detailed ornaments can be purchased for $25 at Old Town Hall Museum, The Old Mill Antique Mall, Serendipity XIX, Farm House Design, D-Signed for You, The Yellow Garage Antiques and The Candy Box. Proceeds support our Historical Society.
Constructed in 1908, the Union Academy was a former four room Harrison Township school. Located in the Mullica Hill Historic District, it is listed on both the New Jersey and the National Registry of Historic Places. The school closed in 1950 along with four other schools in the township when the new consolidated school, serving first through eighth grades, opened on North Main Street. This historic building is now getting a new roof in preparation of renovating it into apartments. The hope is that it will be restored and repurposed and become an asset to the community once again.
