BTHS hosting information sessions for parents

Two-night event will cover recent trends like vaping and screen addiction

If you are a parent with children in their teens, you may find it increasingly difficult to keep up with the rapidly changing world of young people today. In many cases, the rules of yesterday are long gone and have been replaced with new challenges. If you are interested in staying ahead of the curve don’t miss these upcoming information sessions hosted by Burlington Township High School in their Performing Arts Center.

On Jan. 31, at 6:30 p.m. Sgt. Tim Shoemaker is coming to the High School Performing Arts Center to speak with parents about teens and vaping.

“This program is for parents, grandparents, teachers, youth group leaders and those who don’t know much about vaping,” said Director of Community Relations for Burlington Township Schools Liz Scott.

According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, nearly one out of every four middle and high school students has used an electronic vaping device. Whether you believe your child may be vaping or not, this is your chance to get informed.

On Feb. 1, at 6:30 p.m. there will be a screening of the film “Screenagers” at the High School Performing Arts Center. The movie focuses on the phenomenon of screen addiction in both young people and adults.

“If you have a two year old who knows how to use your phone better than you do, you have to come to this movie. If you have a teenager who is constantly on Instagram, or SnapChat, make a date and bring them with you. If you have a child who is addicted to FortNite, there is no question at all, you have to come to this movie,” said Scott.
