BTPD respond to fatal Lamont Road house fire

The fire is still under investigation. At this time, it appears to be non-criminal in nature.

From the Burlington Township Police Department:

At approximately 2:57 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 10, police, fire, and EMS units were dispatched to the unit block of Lamont Road in Burlington, NJ for a house fire.

Upon arrival, emergency personnel found an active fire within the house and initiated fire suppression operations. While doing so, firefighters located 62 year old Ernest Opdyke within the first floor bathroom. Firefighters extracted him from the house, and he was transported by Endeavor Emergency Squad to Lourdes Medical Center in Willingboro, NJ where he was later pronounced dead. Emergency crews remained on scene through the evening as the fire was extinguished and an investigation was initiated.

The fire is still under investigation by the Burlington Township Police Department and the Burlington Township Fire Official with the assistance of the Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office and the Burlington County Fire Marshal. At this time, it appears to be non-criminal in nature.
