Residents are asked to ignore the suspicious calls and report them to the police

The Burlington Township Police Department is warning residents of scammers claiming to be from the IRS.
It is that time of year again when scammers portraying IRS employees begin making phone calls, police said in a notice to residents. These scammers will advise you that you owe the IRS money and will use the threat of arresting you in order to gain your cooperation. They will instruct you pay your debt by using gift cards from local merchants, like Target. The real IRS does not accept gift cards as a method of payment. Residents who receive one of these phone calls are asked to ignore the threats and contact police.
