Burlington Township Council adopts 2018 municipal budget

Council also awarded a contract for project at the Municipal Building

Residents will see no change in their municipal taxes under the 2018 budget adopted April 24 by the Burlington Township Council.

The $24 million budget maintains the average local purpose tax rate at 0.523 percent, meaning a resident with an average assessed property of $234,355 will pay $1,225.68 in municipal taxes.

Township Council introduced the budget in March and amended it April 10 to account for pension increases for municipal employees and funding for emergency remediation work for two low-cost housing units the township is in the process of acquiring.

In other news, Township Council at its April 24 meeting also awarded a $127,000 contract to Eagle Construction Services, Inc., for the replacement of a cooling tower at the Municipal Building.

“This project will involve the replacement of a 28-year-old cooling tower that is exhibiting a significant amount of corrosion, which has resulted in numerous ongoing maintenance issues,” said Township Administrator Walter Corter.
