Join Deptford Township and Gloucester County artistic talents at the opening reception of Galleria Deptford’s Gloucester County Art Week on Sunday, April 28 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Deptford Municipal Building.
This upcoming gallery will feature more than 30 artists who work with watercolors, acrylics, glass work, wood burning and storyboard art.
Galleria Deptford is a nonprofit gallery that focuses on artists from South jersey area and the tri-state area. It brings the art to the people instead of the people going to the art.
They can see it, learn about it and appreciate it while also giving local artists more access to the community.
Alex Seder, the art director for Deptford Township’s Municipal Building, wants to make things more inclusive for artists as well as their work.
“We try to get children more interested with the arts and try to get the word out there and help artists who are trying to make a living,” Seder said.
When you enter the municipal building, there is artwork galore around the lobby and many of those pieces you see around the building are there because of Seder.
The galleria features many different types of artists, from student artists to people who live in the community. They have also featured artists from Philadelphia and New York. There is no requirement to be a certain type of artist.
“We like to give any type of artist a chance to exhibit with us,” said Seder. “It gives the community and the people around us the opportunity to view all different types of artwork. They may or may not like it, but it’s opening their eyes to all different types of things.”
Students from Deptford Township High School will have work featured in late June. The gallery also puts on free art movies for the week.
The event is free and open to anyone, light refreshments will be provided and you can also hear the musical stylings of The Erik Marley Trio, which will be playing live.
