Junior ROTC members kick off Read Across America Week with Birches Elementary students

WTHS Junior ROTC members joined students at Birches Elementary School to open Read Across America Week

WTHS senior Evan Bittmann shared an animated reading of Dr. Seuss’ “Green Eggs and Ham” to first graders in Staci Latvenas’ and Brittney Walton’s class at Birches Elementary School.

The cadets of the Washington Township High School Junior Air Force ROTC answered the call to action on Monday as they dispersed around the district to share books with elementary students to kick off Read Across America activities.

On the left, WTHS senior Matt Hampshire shares a book with Birches Elementary school first-graders in Lorraine Pasquale’s class. On the right, WTHS cadets Jenna Williams and Eric Dougherty shared “The Cat in the Hat” and smiles with Katie Castellini’s fourth-grade class.

The younger students had lots of questions about their uniforms and the things that the cadets do in the program, and then settled in to enjoy the readings of several Dr. Seuss classics.
