VBA fundraising for school district
The Voorhees Business Association (VBA) is taking on a new fundraising scheme. Typically, the organization sets out to raise money for the Voorhees Police Department’s holiday fund and scholarships for Eastern Regional High School seniors. This time, the VBA is hosting a fundraising event for the Voorhees school district.
According to the VBA’s website, the organization is a ”community based partnership of business, civic and educational segments of Voorhees township.
VBA Chairman Alan Cohen said board members have been discussing a new fundraising plan for more than a year. Board members were brainstorming ideas for a fundraiser that would “help support the organizations in the Voorhees community,” Cohen said, adding Voorhees Middle School wanted to upgrade its theater.
He said Voorhees Middle School wanted to upgrade their theater.
“VMS has a great theater and have a lot of outside companies [to perform] dances and shows,” he said.
The board decided to host a bowling fundraiser, not only because the event will match the acronymic of the organization (Voorhees Bowling for the Arts), but also to find a way to raise money for audio and visual equipment to make the theater more appealing, Cohen said.
Standing up to the organization’s mission of “community sponsorship” and a network path for local businesses and the community, Cohen said the fundraiser would raise money and bring the two groups together.
Interested bowlers have three donation options. A single bowler can pay $20; a group of six bowlers can pay $95 for one lane, a pizza and a pitcher of soda, and those who want to be a corporate sponsor can donate $150 for six bowlers, a banner above the lane, pizza and a pitcher of soda.
Cohen said non-bowlers who want to be corporate sponsor could donate $100 for a banner over a lane.
The fundraiser also includes a basket auction. Those wishing to donate to the auction, the VBA is looking for items to fill the baskets and materials to make the baskets.
This is the first year the VBA is hosting a fundraiser specifically designed to benefit the Voorhees school district. But Cohen said future bowling fundraisers are likely to appear in the future.
“This is our first year,” Cohen said, adding the organization members are hopeful this first bowling fundraiser will be a success.
Cohen said 20 to 30 lanes are already taken, but there are still more left for interested bowlers.
“We have lanes available,” he said.
Voorhees Bowling for the Arts fundraiser will be held on Friday, Jan. 25, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at 30 Strikes Lanes located at 501 South White Horse Pike, Stratford.
