United Way rings in #GivingTuesday with ‘I am Somebody’ campaign

The United Way of Gloucester County (UWGC) is requesting your support of #GivingTuesday, a global day of giving that encourages philanthropy and celebrates generosity worldwide. #GivingTuesday is held annually on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving (Nov. 27 this year) and the widely recognized shopping events Black Friday and Cyber Monday to kick off the holiday giving season and inspire people to improve their local communities by giving back in impactful ways to the charities and causes they support.

The United Way of Gloucester County is an independent 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that works to meet the needs, resources and diversity of Gloucester County communities. The UWGC raises funds to support local programs to help residents in the areas of education, financial stability, and health, which are the building blocks of a good quality of life. This year, the organization’s campaign theme is “I am Somebody” to encourage others to do everything they can to make the changes they wish to see locally.

“Giving Tuesday is a great way to support charitable giving, and we hope that those who live and work in Gloucester County support the United Way of Gloucester County on this day of giving,” said Michael Gower, executive director of the United Way of Gloucester County. “We want you to know that You are Somebody who can make a difference in the lives of your neighbors right here in Gloucester County. Any contribution, big or small, is meaningful.”

The United Way of Gloucester County supports over 30 programs throughout the County, and one in three Gloucester County residents have utilized a United Way-funded program or initiative. The UWGC also is involved with the Pureland East-West Community Shuttle, which helps individuals get to their jobs, appointments, and more for only $1.00 each way. Recently, the Shuttle has expanded services to include Saturdays.

One of the goals of the United Way of Gloucester County is to ensure its donors achieve their philanthropic goal, whether it is helping an organization that assisted them or a loved one in the past, or to help support programs to make advancements in the categories of education, financial stability, or health. Any donation can make a difference.
