County sheriff’s department holding graduation ceremony for Youth Police Academy

The Burlington County Sheriff’s Department will hold a graduation ceremony for the Youth Police Academy on Saturday, March 23, at 11 a.m. in the Emergency Services Training Center, 53 Academy Drive, in Westampton. The Youth Police Academy is a program for students ages 7 to 12.

This program teaches children important lessons on topics as wide ranging as gun safety, fire safety, bike safety, and avoiding abduction. It also provides students with an opportunity to get to know law enforcement officers and learn that they are available in the case of an emergency.

“The children see a canine demonstration and the Sheriff’s Emergency Response Team, learn various safety lessons, the dangers of gang involvement, how to avoid abduction, and more,” said Sheriff Jean Stanfield.

Students also learn marching and drilling, and will receive a t-shirt and certificate upon their graduation.
