The holidays are a festive time for most people, but they can be difficult for those who have lost someone close to them and are overwhelmed by memories.
Seventeen years ago, at the suggestion of a family in the congregation, The First United Methodist Church in Moorestown created a special community event to help bereaved families and friends find a meaningful way to gather together and remember loved ones during this season. Almost two decades later, the “Holiday Remembrance Service” endures and continues to serve new and returning participants from all over the area.
This year this special non-denominational service will take place on Sunday, Dec. 14 at 3 p.m. in the chapel of the church, which is located at 446 Camden Ave. in Moorestown.
Those who attend are invited to bring a candle in a candlestick to light and place at the altar in honor of departed family or friends. The church provides nursery care for small children and a reception after the service. Additional candles will be available.
