Ordinances amend municipal code

The two new ordinances were unanimously approved by council on Sept. 23.

Deptford council unanimously adopted two new ordinances during its Sept. 23 meeting that each create a new section for the township’s municipal code.

The first measure adopted adds a section called “recreation fee schedule” to the parks and recreation chapter of the code. That will mean an increase in the municipal costs of township events and will allow rental of park pavilions.

Though Mayor Paul Medany did not specify the exact amount of new costs, he did say the increases are not large.

“We just upped some of our fee schedule because they were years old,” he explained. “I can’t tell the exact dollar amounts, but we revised that ordinance just to come up to date with everything else. All the costs are increasing.

“It (the recreation fee) is not a big increase,” he added. “It’s pretty slight. And then we fine tune some of them to get them all online.”

The section created by the other adopted ordinance will govern the use and storage of commercial trailers and where they can be stored. It is a result of unidentified businesses storing trailers in parking lots, causing blockages in fire lanes and other key areas.

“It’s a general cleanup in our code …” Medany said. “We’ve been having a problem with when they (businesses) put them (trailers) in parking spots, etc. And we just wanted to clean up the language in the code to enforce that.

“Some of the businesses have been blocking fire lanes, putting them in parking spots, and the enforcement was in a little gray area. So, now we’ve cleaned that language up.”

Public hearings on the ordinances were held and had no participation from residents. Council also passed four resolutions during the meeting through consent agenda, meaning they were all adopted at once.

“So really,” Medany pointed out, “both ordinances were really cleaning up the language of the ordinances.”

The next council meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Monday.
