Crews extinguish rubbish fire

The Deptford fire department put out a rubbish fire in the parking lot of 1083 Delsea Drive on July 8.

Deptford Fire Chief Richard Thomas arrived at the scene that morning to find that a Waste Management trash truck driver had dumped a full load of burning cardboard onto the lot. The township’s Engine 931 was ordered to stop at the fire hydrant on Delsea Drive just before Carteret Avenue and lay a supply line to help fight the blaze. The crew also deployed two hand lines.

Members of Engine 923 arrived to assist with the fire and a call was made to the township public works department to provide a backhoe. Representatives of Waste Management Company arrived at the scene and indicated they would handle the cleanup and restoration of the property.
