Virtua Health celebrates Hospital Week

Virtua Voorhees Hospital hosted a celebration on May 16 during National Hospital Week that featured a sushi-making demonstration and carnival games.

The hospital – known for its culinary offerings – showcased married sushi chefs Josef and Evie Sutiono and also provided a photobooth.

“Hospital Week is a national recognition, and every year, it’s a great opportunity to thank all of the employees,” said Mark Nessel, president of Virtua Voorhees and Marlton, of the annual national observance that began on May 12. “It’s a big thank you from Virtua for all the work they do.”

The week-long observance of Hospital Week recognizes the contributions of everyone at Virtua and also benefits employee morale, according to Nessel.

“Our annual events are extremely important because people look forward to them,” he explained. “This year, everyone received a beach towel with the Virtua logo, and the smiles and thank you’s from our staff were abundant.

“These events provide a great opportunity for our employees to take a break and have fun, boosting overall morale and engagement.”

Nessel also touched on food at Virtua that is not the usual hospital fare.

“Voorhees has earned a reputation for its exceptional food, often rivaling local restaurants. he noted. “Virtua Voorhees isn’t just known for great care but also for our cafeteria. On a daily basis, people can experience some good and creative food offerings. This recognition has instilled a sense of pride in our food-service team, driving them to continue innovating and providing top-quality meals.”

The hospital’s food has garnered attention from news outlets and food enthusiasts alike, Nessel said.

“The media attention has created a sense of pride among our staff,” he offered. “There’s an enthusiasm to continue offering innovative dishes and ensuring that our cafeteria remains a popular dining spot.”

Looking toward the future, Nessel envisions a lasting positive impact on both the hospital’s reputation and its community relationships.

“Our goal is to recruit and retain the best professionals here at Voorhees and Marlton,” he pointed out. “Having a strong reputation for quality service creates a better environment for our patients. We are always finding ways to show appreciation and recognition, ensuring that our employees are happy to be part of the Virtua family.”

Virtua Health is a comprehensive academic health system with about 14,000 employees that includes five hospitals, numerous ambulatory surgery centers and community-based care initiatives. It is affiliated with Rowan University and Penn Medicine.
