Student poetry contest winners

Council members joined contest winners and their families and heard some of the winning poems.

Mayor Paul Medany and Deptford council – along with representatives from the township library – presented awards to the winners of the annual student poetry contest on May 6.

For April’s National Poetry Month, the township challenged Deptford students to craft a poem of up to 20 lines around the theme of how kindness matters. One winner of each grade from pre-K to 12 was chosen, and many were in attendance at a council meeting to shared their poems.

The winners are:

Pre-K: Olivia Rose (Pine Acres)

K: Rallie Roche (Pine Acres)

3: Aiden Feeney (Good Intent)

4: Aradhya Sharma (Shady Lane)

8: Gunjan Sharma (DMS)

10: Lillianna Kalwite (DHS)
