Love is the theme for library teen treats

The Mullica Hill Library will host a teen treats event for youth ages 13 to 17 on Friday, Feb. 9, so participants can make snacks with a Valentine’s Day theme.

According to teen librarian Crysta Miller, the free event is the second teen treats activity and is returning after popular demand.

“The teen treats program is actually a repeat from last year,” she said. “The teens loved it so much that they asked for it again. The program consists of making Valentine’s Day-themed treats, like chocolate covered pretzels, Rice Krispie Treats and fruit.”

Ingredients will be provided for the event and include chocolate, a variety of sprinkles and other candies. Teens are welcome to decorate the treats and have the option of keeping what they make for themselves or sharing them with others.

“Everyone who participates will be able to make and decorate a couple different treats to keep or share,” said Miller. “It’s a great afterschool activity to kick start the weekend and an opportunity for teens to hang out and socialize with delicious food.”

The event will be similar in tone to the My Own Valentine event the library hosted last year, also a Valentine’s-themed activity catering to teenagers.

“People can expect to come out of this program with a bit more self-confidence than they came in with,” Miller explained. “It’s my goal to make sure that the teens feel love for themselves, and not measure their social success based on others. A little self-confidence goes a long way.

“I want to see these teens be the best versions of themselves and be unstoppable when it comes to their aspirations.”

The teen treats session does not require a library card, but those interested are required to register. A form can be filled out on the GCLS website, one per person with name, email and phone number included. No group registrations will be permitted.
