Special to The Sun. The Camden woman arrested has been charged with first-degree carjacking and second-degree conspiracy.

Mantua Township police have charged one of two suspects in an armed carjacking at a Bridgeton Pike Wawa on June 9.

A 28-year-old Camden woman has been charged with first-degree carjacking and second-degree conspiracy. It’s alleged that she and a second suspect who is still at large robbed a man of his 2018 Mercedes Benz at gunpoint. There were no injuries.

The woman is being held at the Salem County Correctional Facility until a court hearing, according to police. Her alleged accomplice is believed to be an African American male.

“The successful apprehension of this case underscores the unwavering commitment of our law-enforcement agencies to safeguard the lives and property of our community members,” Det. Robert Layton said in a statement about the Camden woman’s arrest.

Layton is a member of the Mantua police detective bureau who handled the case with help from county law enforcement.

“We want our community to know that their safety remains our top priority,” he noted, “and we will continue to work tirelessly to bring those who commit crimes in our community to justice.”

The township and Mantua Police Chief Darren White praised the detectives’ work, with the latter saying he is “proud of the efforts of our detectives and other partners in their thorough investigation and arrest.”

Anyone with information on the case is asked to email Layton at  [email protected].
