Construction on Mantua Boulevard to fix storm sewer pipes that sit underneath the road will result in delays, lane closures and minor detours until at least Friday.
Work began earlier this month and was first announced on the Mantua Facebook page and discussed in one of Mayor Robert Zimmerman’s weekly messages. The road remains open in certain parts, with lane closures and detours to keep traffic moving smoothly.
Mantua Boulevard is classified as a county roadway, according to Zimmerman, so the sewer pipe work is overseen by county engineer Barry Beckett.
“The county is in the process of replacing storm sewer pipes at this location,” the mayor said. “According to the county engineer, this project will be ongoing until the end of next week, at the earliest. Please expect continued delays, lane closures and minor detours around the work site until at least July 14.”
A number of determining factors – including weather and poor air quality around the nation resulting from Canadian wildfires – could impact when the road project is completed. Mantua police will be on hand during construction to help drivers and will also direct traffic as needed.
Sitting in the Sewell section of Mantua, the boulevard is connected to several neighborhoods and is home to businesses such as the post office, Professional Healthcare Staffing and Car Effex. The road also connects Route 45 and Main Street to Glassboro Road to enable easier access to businesses on those streets.
“You may have been impacted by the ongoing road construction on Mantua Boulevard in the Sewell section of our community,” said Zimmerman. “We thank you for your ongoing patience in this matter, and certainly apologize for any inconveniences that this may create.”
