I, Deputy Mayor Pete Scirrotto, Committeeman John Legge and Committeeman Shawn Layton attended the 2nd Annual Casey Power Memorial 5k Run & Walk on April 1. It was truly an honor to stand behind the Casey Power Foundation led by Casey’s mother, Maryanne Power in support of victims and survivors of domestic violence. What a great showing of support for Casey on her heavenly birthday.
Deputy Mayor Scirrotto and I attended the 2nd Annual Car Show for the Vineland Veterans Home sponsored by VFW District 13 on April 2 at Chestnut Branch Park. I had the honor of presenting the Mayor’s Award to award recipient Kelly Bramble Glaze and presenting all the awards for the best cars at the show. It was a true privilege to stand with our veterans for a great cause.
Deputy Mayor Scirrotto attended an Eagle Scout Court of Honor at the Mantua VFW on April 2 and presented township proclamations to Eagle Scout honorees Evan Kizer, Nathan Roberts and Nicholas Elentrio, Jr. We’re certainly proud of these young men and their great accomplishments. They’re our future leaders.
Last week, I discussed how the Mantua Township Regional Municipal Court has been a model of excellence throughout the entire state for regionalization. Another example of how we’ve paved the way is through our shared service agreement with the Borough of Wenonah for policing services. Back on June 1, 2018, we entered into a 10-year agreement with Wenonah who disbanded their own police department and contracted the Mantua Township Police Department to police their community. The following figures show the steady revenue stream that we’re receiving to date:
2018: $366,666.67
2019: $550,000
2020: $561,000
2021: $583,440
2022: $603,803.40
2023: $621,917.30
Note: Each year from 2024 through 2028 there is a 2.5 percent increase in the payment for this service and we are contracted through Dec. 31, 2028.
- For 2023, the Township is eagerly pursuing new opportunities for sharing services. Our recent new service that we are providing is housing inspections to the Borough of Wenonah.
- For several years now, many of us in state and local government have sought ways to make government, and our public institutions, work better – to make them more efficient, less costly and perhaps most of all, easier for the people who pay for them to access services.
- Consolidation and shared services in a variety of areas is just something that we have to continue in order to tame property taxes.
- This sort of consolidation and shared services provide a practical path to cut expenses and deliver relief to the local taxpayer in Mantua and partnering communities, all the while making the system fairer and more efficient.
We’d like to recognize two of our female law enforcement officers, Special Law Enforcement Officer (SLEO) I Kayla Rhodes and SLEO I Cecilia Rocco who both attended the Gloucester County Women in Law Enforcement Breakfast in honor of Women’s History Month last week at Riverwinds in West Deptford. Officers Rhodes and Rocco had the opportunity to network with other female officers from around the county and had a chance to meet Acting Prosecutor Christine Hoffman and other great female leaders from Gloucester County. We’re extremely proud of these young women and thank them both for their dedicated service to our community!
Upcoming Township Meetings and Events:
- The next Township Committee Meeting is scheduled for Monday, April 10 at 6:00 p.m. at the Township Administration Building on Main Street.
- The Township will be hosting a Shredding Event on Saturday, April 15 from 9:00 p.m. until noon at the Township Municipal Building Parking Lot on Main Street. This event is for Gloucester County residents only. Use this opportunity to rid yourself of old documents in a safe and secure manner.
