Medford man charged with killing wife

A 40-year-old township man has been charged with the murder of his wife in their Regent Court home, according to police and the Burlington County Prosecutor LaChia L. Bradshaw and Medford Township Police Chief Arthur E. Waterman.

Babu Natarajan was taken into custody at the home on March 29 and charged with first degree murder. He is being held at the Burlington County jail in Mount Holly pending a detention hearing in Superior Court.

The investigation began on the afternoon of March 21, when Medford police officers were called to the residence for a report of an unconscious and unresponsive female adult, according to a press release from the prosecutor’s office.

Upon arrival, they found the body of 41-year-old Angammal Babu on the bed in the upstairs master bedroom. The 911 call was allegedly placed by Natarajan, who told police that his wife had taken a nap because she was tired, according to the prosecutor.

An autopsy performed by the county medical examiner ruled the manner of death as a homicide, with the cause of death a compression of the victim’s neck.

The investigation was conducted by the Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office (BCPO) and the Medford Township Police Department (MTPD). Along with the prosecutor’s office and police, lead investigators were prosecutor’s office detectives Al-Jerome Burnett-Crawford and Melyssa Alonso and police detectives Jeff Samalonis and Mark Hunsinger.
