A 33-year-old Sicklerville man faces a number of charges – including death by auto – after a multi-vehicle collision on Feb. 11 at the intersection of Route 42 at Brookdale Boulevard, according to Monroe Township police.
The crash was reported at 6:41 p.m. A GMC Terrain driven by an 84-year-old Hammonton man was exiting Brookdale Boulevard onto 42 when it was struck by a Ford Edge driven by Brendan Haas, who was traveling north on 42.
After the impact, the Ford went over the center median, where it hit a 2021 Nissan Rogue driven by a 31-year-old Williamstown woman. That vehicle was occupying a left-turn-only lane on the southbound side of the roadway at the intersection.
As a result of the initial crash, the front-seat passenger of the GMC – 81-year-old Antionette Hummel of Hammonton – sustained serious injury and was later pronounced dead, according to police. The GMC’s driver and two juveniles in the Nissan also sustained injuries.
Along with death by auto, Haas was charged with three counts of assault by auto and a DWI (driving while intoxicated), police said. Anyone who may have witnessed the crash should contact Monroe police officer Michael Fitzgibbon at (856) 728-9800, ext. 587.
