Does Deptford have talent?

Next month’s show will feature high-school students and staff

For the first time since COVID, the township high school will host Deptford Has Talent on Dec. 2 in its auditorium.

The event was put together by the two advisors for the Class of 2025, teachers Kathleen Lennon and Dan Burt, who have worked with the student class officers to make the talent show happen.

Each year the class advisors are responsible for planning and executing activities for the students,” said Lennon. “It has been a few years since we have had one and decided that this would be a great year to resurrect this fun activity.

“We decided to put a different spin on it this year and call it Deptford Has Talent,” she added. “All class advisors and the class officers will work together to make this happen.

For the first time this year, not only will students from the high school compete for prizes, hearty congratulations and bragging rights, so will teachers and administrators, board of education members and even instructors from other township district schools – basically anyone who wants to demonstrate a talent.

Some notable acts from the past have included a duo playing the characters of John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John in the movie “Grease.” Other shows have also included singers that Lennon describes as “exceptional” and funny acts.

We are trying to get a drum battle, lip-syncing battle, comedy, singing, musical performances and dances,” Lennon noted.

Including the years affected by COVID break, a talent show has been hosted by the high school for more than a decade now.

Guests from outside of the township can attend the show and tickets can be purchased the night of the event, which begins at 7 p.m. Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for students. Money raised from ticket sales will help financially support the school’s student activities and offset their costs, including those of the prom and senior picnic.
