Writers unite for roundtable

Library group offers space for authors to share their work

For those who want to improve their writing or share work, the Mullica Hill branch of the Gloucester County Library System (GCLS) hosts a writer’s roundtable twice a month.

They are a self-run group that have been meeting for several years,” said Debbie Drachman, who heads the roundtable. “The group is open to anyone in the community. It’s for writers of fiction and nonfiction who are welcome to join and share their projects.”

The meetings, Drachman explained, work like a peer review. Participants read their work and get constructive insight from the group, whose members are asked to keep an open mind and be fair in their critiques.

“Participants read and discuss each other’s works, with the group providing friendly critique,” said Drachman.

All genres in the realms of both fiction and nonfiction writing are accepted for critique, everything from science fiction to mystery to horror to comedy.

To register for the writer’s roundtable, go on the GCLS website, locate the calendar and type “writer’s roundtable” in the search bar. Click on the link in the date and fill out the registration form. It will ask for a name, email and phone number. Registration is also available by phone at (856) 223-6042.

Each attendee and aspiring author must sign up for the Mullica Hill branch writer’s roundtable separately. Space is also limited. General information and updates on the group can be had on the GCLS Facebook page.

The next writer’s roundtable will be Tuesday, Oct. 4, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., in meeting room C  at the Mullica Hill branch. Another session will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 18, at the same time and place.
