Gloucester County Division of Senior Services offers nutrition program

A donation of $1.25 is accepted for each meal, however this is voluntary.

The Division of Senior Services and the Gloucester County Board of Commissioners continue to offer seniors hot, mid-day meals.

“The Nutrition Program offers mid-day meals to seniors who are 60 or older,” Commissioner Director Robert M. Damminger said. “We are proud to offer the program in a number of our towns including Mantua, Glassboro, Thorofare, Williamstown, Deptford and Paulsboro.”

A donation of $1.25 is accepted for each meal, however this is voluntary. There is no obligation to contribute and no one is turned away. View the monthly menus on the Gloucester County website.

Privacy and confidentiality with respect to contributions is guaranteed and all collected contributions are used to expand services.

In addition to the nutrition sites, the Gloucester County Serve-A-Tray provides hot, nutritious noon time meals to eligible county residents delivered Monday through Friday and frozen meals are available for the weekends.

Commissioner Jim Jefferson, liaison to the Division of Senior Services, says the program is always looking for volunteers to help deliver meals to our seniors.

“This is a great way to give back to our community and meet new people as well,” Commissioner Jefferson said. “It’s a rewarding program to volunteer with because you can see your contribution making a difference. We want to make sure we have volunteers on hand so we can prepare to serve all our seniors throughout the year.”

Volunteers keep a log and are reimbursed for their mileage. For further information on services offered through the Nutrition Program, or volunteer opportunities call 856-384-6900 or visit http://bit.ly/2wTm6hR.
