At a time when the teacher shortage is rapidly looming — and teachers are leaving the profession in unprecedented numbers throughout the nation, “Fired Up Teachership” gives educators the encouragement and tools that they need to remain passionate about education well into their careers.

Michele Rispo Hill and Dr. Frank Rudnesky are two local South Jersey educators who recognized the need to inspire educators and offer sage advice based upon decades of personal experience as educators. “Fired Up Teachership” is a sequel to Rudnesky’s book called “Fired Up Leadership.”

These two educators came together to collaborate on a book dedicated to teachers everywhere. “Fired Up Teachership” is a compilation of storytelling, strategies and inspiration to keep the flame burning in the hearts of every teacher.

Hill and Rudnesky use the analogy of a shaky three legged stool to describe the much talked about, and impending shortage of teachers to fill classrooms across the country.

According to Hill and Rudnesky, the contributing factors that are exacerbating the anticipated dearth of teachers are: the lack of university students entering the education major, teachers leaving the field within the first five years of teaching and veteran teachers retiring early.

The time to act is now. “Fired Up Teachership” takes readers on a practical walk through the ins and outs and ups and downs as an educator with inspirational stories that are meant to validate and reaffirm educators in every part of their teachership journey.

“Michele and Frank speak honestly from a multitude of experiences, and they share true stories that could have led them to lose their passion. Instead, they both chose to learn from their experiences and keep their fire going strong,” Jennifer Hogan, author of “The Handbook for Courageous Leadership” said. “Michele and Frank provide real, accessible, and practical lessons for their readers. A positive attitude can be learned, and Michele and Frank model this for us throughout this book.”

Michele Rispo Hill, a Mullica Hill resident for over 20 years, is a passionate educator who has dedicated a life-time to the education profession as a teacher, author and presenter of professional development. Today, Hill serves as the coordinator of admissions and strategic marketing and the equity specialist for a career and technical school in Burlington County, as well as a national presenter of various educational topics.

Dr. Frank Rudnesky, Atlantic County resident, draws on his experience as an accomplished teacher, award-winning middle school principal, and transformational leader. Rudnesky was the principal of Belhaven Middle School in Linwood for a span of two decades. During that time, the school was recognized with numerous local, state, and national awards for leadership, technology influence, excellence in performance and a positive culture.

“Fired Up Teachership” sparks the important conversation on how important it is to encourage the next generation to choose the noble profession of teaching and keep them so “fired up” that they don’t want to leave.
